Poverty ,Resource Repletion, Environmental Regradation, Wars & Conflicts

I live in a country where all these undesirable situations and calamities struggle to maintain their status quo. It’s such a disappointment that the same people who suffer from these problems, are still the ones who trigger them. Most people turn fingers and give unnecessary excuses after the problems have started infesting their vicinities.

Looking closely and judging by the factual sense, one notices that the residents in a certain area are the ones who can determine the well-being of the

place. If they want to end some calamities e.g. poverty, drought and the environmental degradation, they can; only if they start working out possible solutions to their problems. They shouldn’t sit down and wait for ‘manna from heaven’ from reluctant donors. The way forward for humanity is working together as a group to outweigh the pressures of succumbing to calamities. I would start by creating awareness and empowering people to work together in preventing some of the calamities e.g. War and conflict, Environmental destruction and also Resource depletion. Prevention is always recommended as opposed to cure.

Poverty is the deprivation of basic human needs. Eliminating poverty in society is a mark point that shouldn’t be glued on. Providing education to society will promote the culture of self-providence whereby one gains knowledge on helping him/herself. It also reduces dependency ratio thus increasing standards of living. Reducing taxation rates makes citizens of a given country save more thus increases the financial status of citizens. Providence of vast job opportunities by the respective government helps citizens earn a living hence reducing rate of poverty.

Resource depletion is the consumption of resources faster than it can be replenished. It’s commonly used in reference to farming, mining and fishing. Preventive measures that can be executed to deal with this overwhelming ‘epidemic’ are by using alternative methods to compensate the depleting resource. Overpopulation is also a cause of resource depletion whereby, there is a limited resource of which is craved by most living things. This leads to overconsumption hence depletion of the resource. Emigration helps mostly in such kind of situation. It’s mostly practiced by the nomads and also farmers. Quarries and mining pits should be filled with stones or be reclaimed as fish ponds as a way of conserving such sites. This prevents pollution and also breeding of bacteria-causing organisms e.g. plasmodia. Disposal of waste resources shouldn’t be executed through burning. Burning destroys and kills micro organisms. On that issue, alternative methods can be used instead of burning e.g. slashing, fallowing or else by use of use of tools like pangas. This would save a lot of the green vegetation thus improving the way forward of humanity.

Environmental destruction is the deterioration of environment through depletion of resources such as air, water and soil. It can also include destruction of eco-systems and extinction of wildlife. We can always have ways to prevent the environmental destruction despite of the natural factors e.g. earthquakes, hurricanes among others. These are by practicing deforestation, wildlife officers to prevent poaching, perfect disposal of industrial effluents, maintaining the mountain peaks to prevent increase of sea-level and by preventing unlawful cutting down of trees. I would encourage people to use environment friendly ways of acquiring energy.

War and conflict are dangerous threats in today’s world. Countries and citizens themselves are always in war to either retain dominance or secure certain resources. In African countries, tribal conflicts are the prevalent contentious problems we have. Such conflicts are prevented by ensuring equal share of resources to all tribes and also by engaging the warring parties in social functions e.g. trade, sports, intermarriages and many more. A world of interaction and competition, promotes peace and peaceful co-existence.

To sum up, the best way for humanity is by taking the right initiative to work things out for the betterment of tomorrow. We should always perform our duty to improve our standard of living knowing there is always a generation of citizens who will live in this earth after our generation.

Let’s protect our God-given earth.
